»Many artists are more concerned and involved with the processes that leads to the final artwork than with the actual product that's presented to the viewer. Even the most simple image is a veneer behind which lie layers of mental associations, historical references and formal considerations. An image or object that may appear as a singular, coherent form is invariably underpinned by hundreds of decisions- what to include, how to arrange and construct, what to leave out, how to display. Some of these decisions are conscious whilst others are subliminal or automatic. There is then a choice to be made whether to refer to the background material and references within the artwork itself or in the gallery context or to attempt to focus entirely on what is seen and the subsequent connections made by the viewer.«
