summer drawings' show
June 14 - August 2, 2008
»Walking the Line« is a drawings exhibition focussing on two main themes:
Abstract Drawing and the human figure / portrait. A multitude of contextual relationships evolve within the selection of works.
Spiritual aspects are not only addressed in the old Indian drawing such as a Ram Mantra or a spell drawing made by anonymous priests. Alexander Gorlizki, for instance, embraces Tantric traditions in his abstract work. Lucy Beppler, Ines Hock, Frances Richardson and Lynne Woods Turner at least have a formal kinship with the Mantra. On different levels their work can be described as meditative, relying on patterns that are built up and often left to develop a life of their own. A spiritual motive can also be associated with the series of works that Antony Gormley‘s drawings are taken from: »Body and Light«.
In contrast Eyal Danieli‘s works seem to be quick sketches of images that we are confronted with in the media. There is a certain blunt brutality and directness about them that harshly relates to everyday life.
With works by:
Lucie Beppler, Louise Bourgeois, Jonathan Callan, Eyal Danieli, Reinhard Doubrawa, Alexander Gorlizki, Antony Gormley, Ines Hock, Frances Richardson, Lynne Woods Turner and old Indian Drawings
